Planning out new features
Hey All,
Since the initial release i've been taking a little extra time to do some planning and be more organised with my development process rather than diving head first into working on new features. Instead of just using a simple Google Keep list for features/things that need to be worked on which us what I used for the MVP release, I've started using a service called Codecks which is a really interesting take on the typical project management software I would normally use in my day job.
So as you can see from the image above I have 4 main features that i'm think about and really wanted to get into the game (this is by no means an exhaustive list):
- Character Customisation
- Brewing Potions
- NPC Relationships
- Quests
For the character customisation I want to make sure I have a variety of different hair styles, skin tones and have a few different colours witches robes that can be chosen. I want to avoid assigning a particular gender to the character as I don't think it really matters for the type of story telling I want to do in this game, I'm not 100% convinced I want to get into doing romances for the player character, but what I really want to concentrate on is building relationships with the NPCs and creating a sense of community.
Brewing potions is an interesting one as it will add several new mechanics to the game, the idea of foraging for ingredients as well as the brewing mechanic and how i'm going to handle that in game.
NPC relationships as I mentioned above is an important one, I really want to build a system that encourages the player to be part of the community and have to work hard to foster a sense of community and belonging in the village.
Finally quests is an important one for any RPG and it will be the motivator for a lot of the actions the player will be doing in the game.
So those are my thoughts this far, as you can see from the picture I also have a special category just for bug tracking which I will always try and prioritise as I go through this development process, but if you have any more thoughts or ideas of what you would want to see in a game like this then let me know in the comment section below!
